Online Referencing Procedure for a Work
with an INTERDEPOSIT Network Member Organisation

(we suggest printing this page)

If you wish to deposit physically your work, please contact the Agency for the Protection of Programs

As soon as the rightholder is a member :

Step 1
The rightholder makes a backup of the work he wants to reference.
Step 2
He create an electronic signature for the file containing his work and writte the particular conditions for the use and exploitation of his work.
Step 3
the rightholder fills out the IDDN referencing form and INTERDEPOSIT attributes an IDDN to the work.
Step 4
This certification containing the specific conditions for use and exploitation is to be appended to the work by the rightholder.

STEP 1 : backup of the work

The rightholder makes a backup of the work he want to reference. It is important to keep this file safely.

STEP 2 : calculation of the electronic signature for the work request for referencing

The rightholder download the iddn signature tool (for Windows 95/NT only - 424 Kb) to signe his work. This tool create a "Iddn" repertory on Hard Disk "c:" and save into it the successives signatures. With the iddn signature tool he can easely copy and paste the signature to the on line form.

Other way :

The affiliated member may choose the key calculation software at his convenience and apply it to the file comprising his work. The only limitation in the choice of this tool is in the length of the key (signature) : maximum of 32 characters. The member should verify that the tool he has chosen is recognised by INTERDEPOSIT. If this is not the case, he must inform INTERDEPOSIT of the existence of this tool, with all necessary information (name, version, publisher’s address...).

Example : PKZIP
The rightholder compresses his work in a zip file using PKZIP
Then he applies [PKUNZIP-v] to the file
PKUNZIP displays the CRC-32 for the file containing his work : this is the electronic signature
(Note: a CRC-32 has 8 characters)

If you're not yet familiar with handling key calculation software, have a look at the help pages with an explanation of the electronic signature and how to get it.

Before referencing, the rightholder define the particular conditions for the use and exploitation of his work.

STEP 3 : assignment of an IDDN

The rightholder access to the member's menu (member's number and password). He communicates his request to INTERDEPOSIT through an online form.

For more information, consult the IDDN codification page.

INTERDEPOSIT generates the IDDN Certification, on the basis of the information given while the work is being referenced. This certification groups together :

- the IDDN,
- the name (or title) of the work,
- the rightholder's name,
- the origin of the works used for the creation of the work (in certain cases there aren't any),
- the use and exploitation conditions defined by the rightholder,
- the MD5 electronic signature of the certification (key calculated by the software granting chronology and inviolability of the referencing).

STEP 4 : the rightholder appends the referencing certification to his work

The URL of the IDDN Certificate is communicated to the member by INTERDEPOSIT.

The IDDN network recommends the insertion of the IDDN pictogram.

On the Internet, a simple click on the IDDN pictogramwill direct the user to the certificate.

In all other cases, the certificate is intended to be included as is in the medium of diffusion, appended to the work itself.
